Five Reasons Why You Should Go Back To Church

Your family went to church every Sunday and sometimes on Wednesday nights but it’s been decades since you’ve been back to church. Now you’re feeling guilty. Your kids don’t’ know the Lord’s Prayer and think the Walls of Jericho is a war movie. You’re feeling drawn to that building at the end of your block with the steeple and stained glass windows. Should you go back to church and rediscover that soft, spiritual side? Experts say, yes!

Fear of death: Christians believe their faith in Jesus assures them a place in heaven. As we age, we come to realize that we are not the immortal beings we thought we were in our youth. The older we get, the more we cling to the hope that there is life after death, a notion reinforced in church.

Sudden loss: Whether it’s the death of a child, the loss of a spouse or even a job, we return to the church for comfort and prayer. Those life altering moments can send us running to the God of our youth. A loving father who can make everything right again.

Seeking the truth: Many young people leave the church because they’re searching for their own belief system, separate from their parent’s. Once out in the big world, they investigate other religions and spiritual pathways. Their search brings them back to the traditional Christian church, and once through the doorway, the familiarity of church embraces them. They’ve come home

Faith can be fun: Clapping is now allowed in most churches. Organ music and traditional services are being replaced by dancing in the aisles and worship bands rocking out behind the altar. Music is attracting droves of people back to church. The joy of worshipping God with uplifting music and meaningful lyrics is bringing people into church again.

Our parents were right: As soon as we hit 40 or 50, the years of rebellion are long gone and we realize that our parents were right all along. We cease to question how the world works and we surrender to what we know to be true. Just as we realize how smart our parents really were, we can see more clearly the message of Christ and the truth of the Bible.
