Regaining our Spirituality

I wondered, “Why am I writing about spirituality when there is already volumes of information published on the topic”?  Oh, the flood of answers.  There is so much to say, yet it is all so simple. Maybe that’s the problem: it’s so simple.

We have the most amazing situation.  There is available to us an incredible amount of information and experiences, so much that we can barely touch the surface in one lifetime.  We’re like a child in the amusement park.  We start out holding the hand of our guardian and guidance, but there is so much to see, so many new and wondrous experiences!  In the whirlwind of adventure we stepped away from the connection that gave us comfort and kept us safe.

Sooner or later we all reach a point when the excitement is no longer so exciting.  It’s time for rest and renewal.  We look around, but now that hand that lead us along for so long is not there.  In fact, many of us forget that the hand ever existed.   Then it strikes:  we feel a lack, and we feel alone.  So we seek, but who or what are we seeking?

Many of us are at that point of needing rest and renewal, that time to rethink, regroup and remind ourselves of our true goals in life.  But how do we do that?  How can we know “what to do” when we don’t even know what part of this load we carry is “the real me”?

We’ve spent a long time wandering around this amusement park, doing and seeing and learning, and just like a child so many of us struggle and fight when it’s time to cleanse and rest.   As truly exhausted as we are we continue to drive forward, for the world awaits us, and we don’t want to miss a beat.

And so, in celebration of the child-like beings that we are, we will now go back to the basics, the four “R’s”.  Okay, this is my version of the four “R’s”.  It’s time to remember what brought us to this wonderful world in the first place, and reconnect in all directions.   Just as we allow our bodies time to sleep (and many of us are challenged on that level,  too)  we can allow ourselves a spiritual moment of rest (call it meditation or prayer)  when we can release and renew.  We all need that time to recharge so that we can move boldly forward into our next adventure.
